Pill Bug's Q about "just like that" of 12/02/99:

LTNS. I once asked you about the phrase "just like that" in the class, and yesterday another "just like that" appeared in a movie. A dialogue is like this:

Wife: "Tony has changed. He said that he would settle down to job." (Tony had been dependent on his wife since they married.)

Boyfriend: "Just like that?"

Wife: "Just like that."

A Japanese subtitle says "So flatly?" The phrase sounds like

"too abruptly", "too easily" or "Is that all?" to me. Right?

I think this phrase has at least two different connotations. One is something like "so quickly?" I don't think that meaning fits this situation, however. The other meaning is something like "so suddenly?" or "out of the blue." I think these would make sense in this context, as it seems that he decided quite suddenly with no particular reason. (Please bear in mind that I haven't seen this movie!)
