Explanation(説明)This Japanese-English word is a shortened form of mass communication (also called mass communications).
If you are referring to the newspapers, TV stations, TV programs, and magazines that provide news and entertainment, we usually use the term the mass media.
What's the difference?
It seems to me that the term mass media is used to mean the media that provides content (news and entertainment). I think mass communications is often used for the method of communication such TV and radio. (Note that they are often used interchangeably.)
