cash corner/キャッシュコーナー

Preview(腕試し)

In the old days, we had to go to the bank teller when we wanted to get money from our bank accounts. These days, however, everything is becoming more and more automated, so many people get money from a machine instead of from the teller at the bank.

What do you think this machine is called in (North American) English?

A. an ATM (automated teller machine)

B. an ABBA (automatic box for banking activity)

C. an AMM (automatic money maker)

QuickGlossary (用語辞典)

Explanation (説明)

In North American English, this machine is called several things:

1. ATM (automated teller machine/automatic teller machine)

2. automated teller

3. automated bank machine

4. bank machine

5. cash machine

I think ATM and cash machine are the terms most commonly used in everyday conversation.

The terms are slightly different in British English; I believe they use the following: cash dispenser, cash machine, and cashpoint

Examples(例文)

I almost never go to the teller's window when I want to withdraw money; instead, I just use the nearest ATM.

Transferring money to pay for something is very easy to do in Japan--these days we can do it at almost any cash machine.

Automated tellers are usually used when we want to withdraw money, but they can also be used when we want to deposit money back into our bank accounts.
