In English this game is called basketball. Using the shortened Japanese form will lead to a lot of confusion, as a basket is usually something used for keeping something in (such as flowers or fruit).
You can use the word basket when referring to a basketball player getting the ball into the hoop.
Takahiro is really good at basketball. He made three baskets in a row in the final minute of his high school's game against the number one team in the county.
