Explanation (説明)
play I like to play chess or checkers in my free time.Do you ever play mahjong?
Samuel plays soccer very well.
Exception: Even though bowling is a game, we normally don't use the verb play in front of bowl. (Note that we can use play by itself when talking about bowling.) We usually say go bowling or just the verb bowl by itself.
I went bowling last week. I didn't play* very well--I got 105!Have you ever bowled with people you don't know? It makes me very nervous.
go I went hiking last weekend,Where do you like to go shopping?
Ryoma went snowboarding last weekend.
Do you often go skiing in the winter?
Generally speaking, we play games and we go do a sport or outside activity.
