Joe and Sue got engaged last year.
Sally and Linus are engaged, and they plan to get married next month.
The next step is marriage. Marriage is the noun, and married is the adjective.
Marriage is a subject many single men don't like to talk about.Sonia is married; her husband is a newspaper reporter.
There are several verbs to describe getting into this situation. One is get + married. The other is marry.Joe got married when he was nineteen.Yoko got married to Yuji when she was 22.
Joe married his girlfriend soon after she won the lottery.
Mr. and Mrs. Johnson have been married for 23 years.
Get married is the more general of these two terms.
Joe said he never wanted to get married, but his girlfriend's lottery success changed his way of thinking.Note that it is possible to use marry in the general sense, but that usage is not as common as get married.

Finally, the unfortunate end of marriage is sometimes divorce.
