Explanation (説明)
1. Place vs. Activity
You can go to a place, but you can't go to an activity.
unnatural: I went to Umeda yesterday. I wenttoshopping.natural: I went to Umeda yesterday. I went shopping.
2. Adverbs (副詞)
You usually don't go to an adverb.
unnatural: I like Umeda. I wenttothere yesterday. (There is an adverb.)natural: Yukie is going abroad. She is going to Canada. (Abroad is usually used as an adverb.)
(Please note that in some cases words such as "there" and "abroad" can be used as nouns. The examples above show the most natural usage, but they are not the only possibilities of the usage of these words.)
3. Home vs. To Home
We usually use home as follows:
When speaking of our own home, we usually use it as an adverb.
I usually go home by bicycle. (No "to.")When speaking of someone else's home, we often use it as a noun.
Kaori sometimes goes to Chizuru's home.
4. Go on ~
Finally we use go on for a few nouns.
Chie wants to go on a trip during Golden Week.
Isao often goes on business trips.
