get off vs.take off

take off the train

get off the train

I think this kind of sentence is caused by confusion with other s that use take (such as "take off my hat"). When speaking of most forms of transportation, we usually use the following verbs:

get on the train (Used when speaking of entering the carriage.)
I got on the train at Temmabashi Station at 8:15 this morning.

catch the train (Used when speaking of getting on the train , especially when you almost miss it.)

Yumiko ran and was able to catch the last train from Umeda.

ride the train (Used when the train is actually in motion. Also used to state an everyday habit.)

Yoshiko likes to read the newspaper while riding the train.

Yuko used to ride the bus, but now she rides the train.

You can also use "take" when speaking of most forms of transportation.

Yuko used to ride the bus, but now she takes the train.

get off the train (When the train has stopped and you step out of the carriage.)

Miho wanted to get off the train in Kyobashi, but she fell asleep and got off when it stopped at Demachiyanagi.

Note that take off is often used when talking about removing clothes.

I took off my coat as soon as I got in the door.
